Travila

Travila is a comprehensive travel booking platform designed to bring flights, hotels, and car rentals into one seamless experience. The project focused on simplifying the travel-planning journey through a clean interface, integrated search and booking, personalized recommendations, interactive maps, and secure payments. My role involved shaping the product experience and building the technical foundation needed to make travel discovery and booking feel simple, intuitive, and reliable.

Travila

The Context

Travel planning is often fragmented across multiple platforms. A user might search for a flight on one website, find accommodation somewhere else, arrange transportation through another service, and then manually piece everything together.

That creates unnecessary friction. Users have to switch between platforms, compare information in different interfaces, and repeat similar steps throughout the booking process.

Travila was designed to address this by bringing the core components of travel planning into a single application.

The challenge was not simply to put flights, hotels, and car rentals in the same place. The experience needed to feel cohesive—users should be able to discover destinations, compare options, make decisions, and complete bookings without feeling like they were navigating three separate products.

Outcomes & Impact

The result was a cross-platform travel booking experience that brought discovery, planning, and transactions into a single product.

Key outcomes included:

  • A clean, user-centric interface that simplified navigation and booking.
  • Integrated search and booking for flights, hotels, and car rentals.
  • Personalized recommendations based on user preferences and behavior.
  • Interactive maps for exploring destinations, attractions, and nearby locations.
  • Secure payment processing through Stripe.
  • A responsive experience designed to work consistently across iOS and Android devices.
  • A scalable backend capable of integrating multiple third-party travel and payment services.

The project demonstrated how a complex travel marketplace can be reduced to a simple user journey without sacrificing functionality.

The Full Story

Planning a trip usually sounds simple: choose where you're going, figure out how to get there, find somewhere to stay, and make the necessary bookings.

In practice, those decisions are scattered across different platforms.

The idea behind Travila was to bring that journey together. Instead of forcing travelers to move between different services for flights, accommodation, transportation, and destination discovery, the product was designed around a single experience.

The first priority was the user interface. Travel applications can quickly become overwhelming because they contain a large amount of information—destinations, prices, dates, availability, images, filters, maps, and booking details. The interface therefore needed to make the next step obvious without hiding the information users needed to make decisions.

The experience was built around straightforward navigation, clear labels, intuitive icons, and a modern visual system. High-quality destination imagery was used to make the discovery experience more engaging while keeping the booking flows focused and functional.

From there, the product brought the major pieces of travel booking together.

Users could search for flights, hotels, and car rentals within the application rather than treating each category as an isolated experience. Third-party APIs were integrated to provide booking data and availability, while the backend handled the application logic and interactions with those external services.

The product also incorporated personalization. Rather than presenting every traveler with the same destinations and options, recommendations could be influenced by user preferences and previous behavior. This created an opportunity to make the experience more relevant as users interacted with the platform.

Another important part of the experience was location and discovery. Interactive maps allowed users to explore destinations, identify nearby attractions, and understand the relationship between accommodations and points of interest. This helped connect the practical act of booking with the more exploratory side of travel planning.

Once users were ready to book, the experience needed to be equally reliable. Stripe was integrated as the payment layer, providing secure transaction processing while protecting sensitive payment information.

Underneath the interface, the application was built as a cross-platform product using React Native, allowing the experience to be delivered across iOS and Android. The backend was built with Node.js and Express, with MongoDB handling flexible data storage and retrieval.

The architecture also had to account for the fact that Travila depended on several external services. Flight, hotel, and car-rental APIs were integrated into the platform so that users could interact with different travel inventory through a consistent interface.

The result was more than a collection of booking features. Travila brought together discovery, comparison, planning, and payment into one cohesive travel experience—reducing the friction between deciding where to go and actually making the trip happen.
